Children & Car Seat Safety

Oregon law requires:

  • Infants must ride rear-facing until they reach two years of age and 20 pounds
  • Children over two years old and between 20 and 40 pounds must be properly secured with a child safety seat. Toddlers should ride in a forward-facing car seat only after they outgrow the rear facing limits on the car seat.
  • Children over forty pounds or who have reached the upper weight limit for their forward-facing car seat must use a child seat with harness or a booster to 4'9" tall and age eight and the adult belt fits correctly.

Car seat installations and inspections must be done by a certified child safety seat technician. To schedule an inspection, please contact the Silverton Fire Department at (503) 873-5328.

Registered Sex Offenders
