Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) HR 218
 

On July 22, 2004, President George W. Bush signed the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) into law, allowing qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms, regardless of most state and local restrictions. On October 12, 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act Improvements Act, which expanded and clarified provisions related to the documentation required for qualified retired officers carrying under LEOSA and made additional modifications to the existing law.

The Silverton Police Department offers annual LEOSA firearm qualification and certification for retired law enforcement officers each spring for a fee of $25.00.
