Levels 1-4 Water Conservation

June 01, 2026 | City of Silverton Issues Level 1 Water Conservation Alert

The City of Silverton Public Works Department has issued a Level 1 Water Conservation Alert and is asking all residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce water usage as part of the City’s Water Conservation Plan.

The annual conservation period runs from June 1 through October 30 and is intended to help protect and preserve Silverton’s water supply during the warmer summer months. Under a Level 1 Alert, the City is seeking a voluntary 5% reduction in overall water consumption communitywide.

“Small changes in daily water use can make a significant difference when practiced across the community,” said Jerry Nelzen, Public Works Director. “We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping conserve water and maintain a sustainable water supply throughout the summer season.”

The City encourages residents and businesses to take the following voluntary conservation measures:

• Water lawns and landscaping no more than twice per week, preferably during early morning or evening hours to reduce evaporation.
• Avoid washing vehicles at home and use commercial car washes when possible, as they typically recycle and use water more efficiently.
• Reduce indoor water use by turning off water while brushing teeth, shaving, washing dishes, or during other routine activities.
• Check faucets, irrigation systems, and pipes for leaks and repair them promptly.
• Avoid operating decorative fountains or other non-essential water features during the conservation period.

The Level 1 Alert is part of the City’s Water Conservation Plan established under Resolution No. 26-10, adopted by the Silverton City Council on April 15, 2026.

Additional information and water conservation resources are available on the City’s website under Water Conservation. Residents interested in leak detection kits or with questions about water conservation efforts may contact Silverton City Hall Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at (503) 873-5321.

Water Conservation

Abiqua Creek and Silver Creek , Silverton’s water sources, supply water not only to the community but also to many farms downstream. In an effort to conserve our city water supplies, a new Water Curtailment Plan was adopted per Resolution 26-10. Level I, Low Level Alert, of the Water Curtailment Plan is in effect April 2026.
